Helpful Highlights
-
During the regular meeting, the board had four recognitions. The board first recognized Benson Adams, second grade students at Southside Elementary, as the 2025 Superintendent’s Holiday Card Contest Winner. We love Benson’s “Happy Holidays from the Hive!” design. The board then recognized Abigail Caine for qualifying for the KHSAA State Championship in Golf. Next, the board recognized Addie Moore, senior at Woodford County High School, for her third consecutive KHSAA Class 3A State Championship. Lastly, Mr. Ryan Asher, WCPS Chief Academic Officer, was recognized for receiving the Values Driven Award of Excellence from Cognia, a non-profit organization that provides accreditation and certification to educational institutions.

Mr. Ryan Wilson and Ms. Amanda Nugent, Huntertown Elementary School, shared highlights from Huntertown for this school year. Ms. Nugent shared a quote with the board that their quote of the year is “If you're gonna be here, BE HERE!” She shared three goals for the school:
-
Be the North Star
Creating a school where people want to be and people want to come see. Structures around Project based learning, exhibitions of learning, deeper learning, and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to build a culture of respect in the school.
-
Green Light Culture
-
Destruction (Pack) of Wildcats
Third-grade students in Ms. Stakelin's class at Huntertown shared their project-based learning experience, which involves corresponding with pen pals in Pennsylvania. This project is helping students develop proper writing skills and learn how to express themselves through language. The project has also included a collaborative effort with the Woodford County Library to provide access to books, as well as a visit from a local mail carrier who explained the mail sorting and delivery process. The project will culminate in a virtual meeting via Google Meet, allowing the students to communicate with and meet their pen pals.
-
Fifth-grade students in Ms. Gooslin’s class recently presented their publishing project, titled "From Me to We: A Collection of Community Stories from Versailles." The initiative began with a visit from local business owner, Becca Lowe. Students then moved through a multi-step process: interviewing local community members, followed by synthesizing the information they gathered. Excerpts from their resulting book were shared, including a passage by Cooper Chism about his father’s journey to Team U.S.A., playing baseball in Taiwan, and one by Sam Crawford about his grandmother, who was St. Leo’s first kindergarten teacher. The completed book will be accessible at the Woodford County Library.

Superintendent’s Report
This month, Dr. Jones shared her recent activities around the district. Her presentation started with sharing being able to see Addie Moore break her own record and students at Safe Harbor Academy overcoming the “monsters” they can overcome. This was a mental health initiative to support our students.
Dr. Jones shared a few shout outs through out the district. She recognized the all of our schools for their support and dedication to their veteran’s day program. She recognized the efforts of our migrant education program and the community outreach they had recently. It was a great event and support event for our district. A special thank you went to Judge James Kay, Woodford County Judge Executive, for his continued support and dedication to our schools and looking for ways to recognize our students.
During her rounding sessions with staff, Dr. Jones noted that the school community is grateful for the School Resource Officers. The staff appreciate that we have a School Resource Officer in every building. The district is still working to work on our three systems as a district. This would include our budget transparency, onboarding, and hiring.
